2009 - 2010 Grantees

BNC invests in strategies to promote economically diverse and revitalized communities in Baltimore City, and to build a stronger network of nonprofit community development organizations.

BNC makes grants from pooled funds, and works closely with its members and partners to leverage private and public investment.

Currently BNC focuses on:

  • Promoting transit-centered community development - by attracting new investment and creating opportunities for existing residents in Southwest Baltimore (West Baltimore MARC station), Central Baltimore (Penn station), and East Baltimore (subway line).
  • Advancing neighborhood revitalization, primarily by preventing and mitigating foreclosure - by making grants to support default and delinquency counseling, and providing staff leadership and coordination for the Baltimore Homeownership Preservation Coalition.
  • Building non-profit capacity - by providing grants to support graduate student internships with community-oriented nonprofits, consultants to address core organizational issues of grantees, and training opportunities that build the skills of executive directors and senior staff.
